We stock and install Ghost Controls-compatible welded gate hardware across Austin, with most fabrication repairs running $225 to $480 installed depending on the bracket, hinge, or mounting plate involved. The usual call starts the same way: a gate that’s sagging, scraping, or swinging past its stop because a welded joint finally gave out after years of Austin heat and humidity. If your Ghost Controls opener is working but the gate itself isn’t moving right, the problem is usually mechanical, not electrical, and it’s almost always a failed weld or a fractured mount.
We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Ghost Controls, but we work on their equipment every week. Cole Rafferty and the crew keep the common Ghost Controls mounting brackets, hinge assemblies, and reinforcement plates on the truck so most welded repairs happen in one visit.
Which Ghost Controls Models This Applies To
Ghost Controls builds gate openers for swing gates and slide gates, and the welded components we repair or fabricate sit at the interface between the opener and the gate itself. That includes the mounting brackets for the AX and DTP series operators, the front and rear mount plates, the gate bracket that the arm piston bolts to, and the hinge posts that carry the gate’s entire weight. We also handle the welded stop plates and latch receiver brackets that keep a Ghost Controls gate from swinging past its travel limits.
The compatibility gotcha most Austin owners don’t see coming: Ghost Controls changed the bolt pattern on their post brackets between earlier DTP kits and the current AXDP series. If your kit came with a square four-bolt post plate, the newer AXDP bracket won’t line up without a new weld or an adapter plate. We check the bolt center spacing on site before recommending a replacement or a fabrication, and we match the post size too, since Ghost Controls brackets are built for either a 3.5-inch or a 4-inch outside-diameter post and mixing those up is the fastest way to a wobbling gate.
When the original Ghost Controls bracket is available and priced fairly, we use OEM. When a Ghost Controls part has a known weak point, which the post-side brackets do in Texas weather, we’ll sometimes fabricate a heavier plate in-house instead of reinstalling the same thin-gauge steel. We tell you which way we’re going and why before any metal gets cut.

Signs Your Ghost Controls Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags on the latch end. Most Ghost Controls swing gates hang from two hinge points that were welded to the post. When that top hinge weld starts cracking, the gate drops a quarter to a half inch and you’ll see the gap at the bottom of the latch side shrink. The underlying cause is almost always fatigue from thousands of open-and-close cycles, accelerated by Austin’s wet-dry soil shifting the post.
- The opener arm rattles or clunks while running. The Ghost Controls actuator bolts to a gate bracket that sees every ounce of force the opener generates. When that bracket’s weld cracks, each cycle produces a knock as the bracket flexes under load. Left alone, the bracket tears completely and the arm pulls free.
- The gate scrapes the driveway or concrete pad. This tells you the hinge geometry changed, which means a weld has stretched or a hinge barrel is wearing. It’s not a lubrication issue and adding grease won’t fix it for more than a day or two.
- Visible rust bleed from a weld seam. Austin’s humidity works into any unpainted or under-painted weld and starts the rust cycle. Once rust is bleeding from a joint, the weld underneath is losing section thickness and it’s a matter of when it fails, not if.
- The gate swings past its normal stop position. Ghost Controls gates rely on welded stop plates to halt travel at the open and closed limits. When a stop plate shears or a stop bolt wallows out its hole, the gate overshoots and the opener’s internal limit switch becomes the only thing preventing damage.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Austin, Ghost Controls welded fabrication work typically runs $225 to $480 installed. The range depends on three things: the thickness of steel required, whether we’re repairing an existing bracket or cutting and welding a new one, and how much disassembly the gate needs for safe access. A simple post bracket replacement usually lands at the lower end. A heavy gate that needs a new hinge assembly fabricated to match the original geometry runs higher.
Every price is written down and agreed to before we start. The quote includes the part or fabricated piece, the welding consumables, paint or corrosion protection, and the labor to remove, position, and reinstall. We don’t hand you a labor rate and hope for the best. The completed weld work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the repaired joint fails within a year of normal use, we come back and make it right at no charge.
| Ghost Controls Fabrication Work | Typical Austin Installed Price |
|---|---|
| Post bracket replacement (OEM) | $225 – $310 |
| Post bracket fabricated in-house (heavier gauge) | $260 – $350 |
| Gate hinge reinforcement or replacement (single hinge) | $180 – $280 |
| Full hinge set re-weld and alignment | $320 – $480 |
| Stop plate or latch receiver fabrication | $200 – $310 |
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check a few things before calling: look for visible cracks at each welded joint, push the gate gently to see which direction it flexes, and note whether the opener arm mounting point moves independently of the gate. That information helps us bring the right steel and the right welder on the first trip. What we don’t recommend is grinding and re-welding gate hardware yourself. Between the weight of a swinging gate, the stored tension if the gate is still connected to the opener, and the heat from a welder near Ghost Controls wiring, this is work that can get away from you quickly. A gate that drops off its hinges or swings free can do real injury.
If the weld is cracked, call (361) 268-6253 and tell us exactly what it’s doing. We’ll give you a written price before any work starts, and in most Austin neighborhoods we can get to it the same week.
FAQs
Most Ghost Controls brackets and welded hinges last 8 to 14 years in Austin’s climate. The combination of summer heat cycling and high humidity breaks down the paint at weld edges first, and once bare steel is exposed, the weld starts losing thickness. Coastal-influenced humidity near Town Lake and the east side accelerates that timeline compared to drier areas west of Mopac. Call (361) 268-6253 if you can see rust at a weld seam; catching it before the crack forms is a much cheaper fix.
It depends on where the failure is and how much original material remains. A cracked weld on a clean joint can often be ground out and re-welded with a heavier gusset added, which we do routinely. A bracket that’s rusted thin or torn through is a replacement job, and we’ll tell you plainly which one you have. Either way, the repair falls under our 365-Day Done Right Promise, so you get a written guarantee with the work.
Most Ghost Controls fabrication repairs take 2 to 4 hours on site once we start. That includes removing the opener arm or gate hardware, cutting or grinding the failed section, welding, cooling, and repainting. Some jobs with heavy custom fabrication run longer, and we’ll tell you the expected time before we schedule, not after we arrive.
Yes. We keep the common Ghost Controls AXDP post brackets, gate brackets, and hinge rebuild components on the truck, along with raw steel stock for fabrication when an OEM part isn’t the better option. We also carry parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and DoorKing, so if your gate setup mixes brands, we can usually handle the whole job in one visit. Call (361) 268-6253 and we’ll confirm what we need to bring.
