BFT welding and fabrication in Austin typically runs $450 – $1,800 installed, depending on whether we’re repairing a cracked gate frame, rebuilding a hinge post, or fabricating a custom bracket for your operator. Most jobs are done same-day or next-day because we carry steel stock, MIG welders, and BFT-specific mounting hardware on the truck. You’ll usually find out this work is needed the hard way: the gate starts sagging, the operator strains against a misaligned frame, or a weld finally gives out after years of Texas heat cycling and Austin’s clay soil shifting underneath the post.
Which BFT Models This Applies To
Welding and fabrication work follows the gate structure itself, but the BFT operator you have determines how we approach brackets, mounting plates, and clearance. BFT’s Deimos and Phobos swing-arm operators need rigid mounting points with almost no flex, because their torque curve is unforgiving when the arm pushes against a slightly warped gate. The BFT Rigel and Sub series slide operators use gear racks that depend on a straight, stiff gate frame, if the frame twists, the rack pulls away from the pinion and chews itself up. Older BFT units like the Max and Giuno lines often have cast mounting brackets that crack at the bolt holes, and welding a replacement out of plate steel is frequently more reliable than sourcing a discontinued cast part.
Before we touch a welder, we confirm the exact BFT model from the ID tag on the operator body or the control board cover. That tells us the mounting template, bolt spacing, and whether we’re working with a 24V or 120V unit’s bracket geometry. For most BFT gates in Austin, we recommend fabricating brackets from 3/16″ or 1/4″ steel rather than ordering OEM replacements that cost more and arrive in two weeks. There are a few exceptions, though. Some of the Deimos A-series use a heat-treated arm connector that we won’t replicate in the field, because the aftermarket steel doesn’t hold the same tolerances.

Signs Your BFT Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate drags or scrapes on one side. A cracked weld at the frame corner lets the gate drop a half-inch or more, and the BFT operator works harder every cycle. Left alone, the motor windings overheat and the control board starts tripping thermal faults.
- The operator arm makes a clunking sound at the end of travel. A mounting bracket with a hairline crack flexes under load, then snaps back when the motor stops. Each clunk widens the crack until the bracket fails outright and the arm tears free from the gate.
- Rust bleeding from a weld joint. In Austin’s humidity, a pinhole in an older weld lets moisture in, and the rust expands inside the joint. The gate looks fine from the outside, but the inside of that weld looks like a flaky biscuit when we cut into it.
- The gate post leans visibly. Clay soil under an Austin driveway holds water after storms, then shrinks in August. A post that wasn’t welded to a serious base plate does the slow lean, and one day the BFT opener’s safety edge can’t read the angle correctly anymore.
- Someone already “patched” it once. We see this constantly, a bead of weld laid over a crack without grinding the old metal clean. It looks fine for six months, then the crack propagates out from underneath. The giveaway is a lumpy weld with spatter around it.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
Here’s what BFT welding and fabrication work costs in Austin, line by line:
- On-site weld repair (cracked frame, broken bracket tack): $250 – $450, including grinding, weld prep, and repainting
- Custom bracket or mounting plate fabrication: $350 – $700, including steel, drilling, and finish work
- Full gate frame rebuild (swing or slide, standard driveway): $800 – $1,800, depending on frame size, steel gauge, and how much of the original we can reuse
- Post reset with new base plate and gussets: $500 – $1,200, including excavation, concrete, and curing time
The range depends on steel thickness, access to the work area, and whether we’re matching an existing powder-coat color or just doing a rust-inhibiting primer. Every quote is written down before a single weld gets struck. You’ll know the exact price, the exact materials, and how long the job takes before we start. The work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise, if that weld fails inside a year, we’re back for free.
DIY or Call Us?
You can safely check the obvious: walk the gate and look for rust bleeding, hairline cracks at the corners, and missing or loose bolts where the BFT arm connects to the frame. You can also put a level on the post to see how far it’s drifted. That’s the inspection part. The welding part is where DIY goes wrong fast. Gate frames are under tension, even a swing gate that looks relaxed can shift or snap when the old weld is ground out mid-repair. And these are big pieces of steel, cutting one wrong section loose without support can drop the whole gate on your foot or pin you against the post. If you’re not a certified welder with a fire watch plan, this is a call us situation. Cole Rafferty and the crew at Warden Gate Repair Austin show up with the steel, the welder, and the photos of exactly what we’re fixing before we start. Call (361) 268-6253 and tell me exactly what it’s doing and I’ll tell you exactly what it costs.
FAQs
Properly prepped and painted welds on a BFT gate in Austin typically last 12 – 20 years, which means most gates outlive their first operator. The failure point is almost never the weld itself, it’s water getting under the paint at the joint, or the post base rusting out at ground level where sprinkler water and soil moisture sit against the steel year-round.
Call (361) 268-6253 and we’ll take a look at your specific gate.
If the bracket is cracked but the metal isn’t heavily rusted, we can grind out the crack, weld it properly, and reinforce it with a steel gusset. That usually saves you money versus fabricating a new bracket. But if the original was thin cast steel or aluminum, we’ll almost always recommend replacing it, because repaired castings crack again right next to the weld.
We’ll show you photos of the crack and give you a straight written price for either option before we start.
Most single-bracket repairs and crack repairs take two to four hours on site, including prep, welding, and paint. A full gate frame rebuild may take a full day or two, especially if we’re resetting posts in concrete and need to let it cure before the BFT operator goes back under load.
We’ll tell you the expected timeline in writing before the first cut.
Yes. We keep 1/8″ through 1/4″ steel plate, square tube, gusset stock, and the mounting hardware for BFT, LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls on the truck as standard. That’s the difference between a one-day fix and a two-week wait for a parts shipment we don’t think you should have to sit through.
